James LaRocca has served as a cinematographer on several films and has directed three short form films.

Universal Medicine (2020) – A cinematic meditation on illness and healing, inspired by a Buddhist text by Jamyang Khyentse Chökyi Lodrö. Official Main Selection, Buddhist Arts Project, Kathmandu, Nepal.

Hotel Bohemia (2022) – An intimate exploration of the visions, vulnerabilities, and luminous lives of hotel guests, staff, and artists within one of the last remaining residential arts hotels in downtown Manhattan. Upon release, the most-watched film on Short of the Week.

Solitary Retreat (2023) – A behind-the-scenes journey beyond the “Retreat Area – Do Not Enter” sign at Karme Choling Buddhist Center, founded by Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1970, offering rare insight into the solitary retreat experience.

He is currently directing his first feature documentary, Amidst the Gorges.
